The revamped smartphone, which follows last year’s Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note II is “slimmer yet stronger, less to hold yet more to see, [and] it is simply amazing,” according to Shin.

Software & Features Like Never Before:

New Lock Screen:

Gone is the old NATURE like ripple effect! The Samsung Galaxy S4 comes the bright sun flare. The lockscreen unlocks in a very unique way with a bright sun glare when you touch the screen and it sort of spreads as you swipe to unlock. Neat!

Smart Pause, Smart Scroll , Floating Touch , Group Share:

The S4 Is Watching You

By tracking your eye movement, your Galaxy S4 will pause a video when you look away from the screen with Smart Pause. Smart Scroll, on the other hand will move the screen up or down when you tilt the phone and look at the screen at the same time. While the Smart Pause feature could lead to jittery video playback while you keep an eye on what’s going on around you, the Smart Scroll could be helpful when reading large blocks of text maybe. Air View lets you use your finger as an S Pen by giving you a preview of an email, calendar appointment, image gallery or video just by hovering your finger over it. There’s also a Group Play feature that connects networks of GS 4 devices (provided they’re in close proximity) to share music in a surround-sound mode or play games against each other. The phone will also allow users to hover a finger over an email inbox or a photo gallery to get a glimpse of more details of what’s in the email or which photos are in an album.

Take Pictures, Record Videos and Make calls Like A Boss:

The Samsung Galaxy S4 has a Dual-video capture mode, which lets you record video on both cameras simultaneously (much like on the LG Optimus G Pro), and Dual Video Call mode, in which you can make video calls and show the caller what you’re looking at. Additionally, Drama Shot utilizes burst mode to create animated GIFs, while Sound & Shot can record up to nine seconds of audio to accompany a still photo.

Galaxy S4 Drama Shot :

Another camera feature? You betcha, and this one is just a fancy name for one we’ve all seen before. Better known as burst shot, Drama Shot allows your Galaxy S4 to take up to 100 pictures in just a few seconds. The only defining difference between this and burst shot is that with Drama Shot, the S4 will create a collage of the pictures you took to create a single, epic picture. A Drama Shot, if you will. I apologize for that awful pun.

Galaxy S4 Eraser :

We promise that this is the last camera feature. We also saved the best for last because Eraser is actually kind of awesome. Say you’re taking a picture and someone walks through your shot. Erase actually takes a few pictures at once, analyzes the data, and removes pretty much anything that isn’t the subject or the background from the picture entirely. It’s much cooler to see it in practice than it is to explain with words. However, the premise is pretty clear. If there is something in your picture that shouldn’t be there, Eraser can help you get rid of it without having to re-shoot any pictures.

A touchless experience:

The latest phone also has a sensor that lets users move their hands to the left or right to scroll between different websites they have opened or through songs or photos in an album without having to touch the phone. The idea is to make it easier to change the song playing without having to pick up the phone while driving or to avoid putting sticky fingers on the touch-screen display while scrolling through a Web page at mealtimes.

Cam Card and Translator:

Another feature includes the option to automatically put a copy of details from a photograph of a business card into the phone’s contacts database or call a number in the business card.

Samsung is also promising an instant translation between 10 different languages for certain applications, as well as a separate translation application on the device.

S-Health:

Finally, the Samsung Galaxy S4 has ”S Health”, which takes on Fitbit and its ilk with a built-in pedometer, environmental sensors and diet guide. Samsung will sell Fitbit-like bands for people to wear when they aren’t carrying their phones with them, and the biometric data will sync back to S Health, the company said.

Galaxy S4 Samsung Knox

Samsung Knox is not a new feature but Samsung has confirmed that it will be on the Galaxy S4. Knox is a pretty awesome application, so it’s worth discussing again. What Knox does is breaks up your phone into 2 halves. The first half can be used for business and be controlled by people like your IT department at work. The other half is controlled by you.

What’s really cool is that neither of these sides can interact. Your IT department can’t interact with the personal half and your personal half can’t interact with the business half. So businesses can invest in the Galaxy S4 and give them to their employees. The employees can make part of the phone untouchable to the business. Everyone wins.  This feature is only available on SAFE (Samsung For Enterprise) enabled devices, which include the Galaxy S3 and the Galaxy Note 2. The Galaxy S4 joins that list.

Verdict:

Most of the leaked specs came true, however it again is an AMOLED screen only bigger. Samsung Galaxy S4 is an SGS3 ONLY BIGGER! Yes we agree it packs a software like none other ! Samsung has definitely upped the ante on the software front , but how long does it take for the software to become old? What happens then?

There are 2 variants , a quad-core and an octa core! Why? Confusion!

We are convinced that even though Samsung has produced yet another Smartphone Of the Year, it could’ve been a LITTLE more innovative .
