You have a brand new laptop. You’re happily using it- completely lost in it. And you’re thinking, “Man! this is HOT! Why didn’t I buy this beauty earlier!” And as time passes and you’re still using it, you start wondering why your lap feels so uncomfortably warm. ( Well, that’s not the kind of hot you’d anticipated I’m sure!). You, my friend, are now the a candidate for buying a laptop cooler. And worry not! Cause we’re here to show you which one!

You need to seriously start thinking about investing in a laptop cooler pad when you start to notice heat building up in your laptop while gaming or even doing mundane tasks like surfing the net. At load, air from your laptop’s ventilation holes tends to get uncomfortably hot, which isn’t really a good thing while you’re working with it.

I decided to buy this cooler when I started working and gaming from my laptop more than my PC. I noticed that my laptop was heating up SO much, that I thought of cooking eggs on it. ( And , I kid you not! It probably would have worked :p ) even when I was doing less intensive works like surfing the net. It was pretty hard to place my laptop on my lap more than half an hour. The cooling part happened only when virtually no apps were running in the background. But ever since this beauty of a cooler came into my life, I’m so much more at ease using my laptop any way I like.

The Unboxing

The Notepal x3 laptop cooler comes packaged snugly in a box comparable to the size of any mid-range laptop packaging box. The cooler is padded by two soft foam pieces. The product was delivered to me undamaged. (Yay!).

2. A USB cable to power up cooler
3. A Quick installation guide

Looks & design 

Cooler master says the design is inspired by jet planes. The Notepal X3 is a big blue X shaped contraption which oozes the heady lustiness that any gamer would want. However, it has a 200 MM fan which is visible only when the laptop isn’t placed on it. Well, what’s the point of  a cooler without a laptop sitting pretty right on top? The light of the blue LED is almost invisible in the dark when the laptop is placed on top of it. The Cooler master designers should probably have put those LED’s on the sides or somewhere else on the cooler in a more visible place. It has got enough light to allow you to spot your laptop sitting on the cooler in a dark room.There are two horizontal blue trails on top of the cooler plate which improves the overall aesthetics of cooler itself. But again I say, if you want develop your cooler to look good with your laptop on top of it, they really need to make changes on more visible places.

 

The curves and edges of the coolers have some triangular sharp feel which matches X shape of cooler. That’s the one thing they got right.There are two ports on the side. One of them is a USB port which replaces the USB on laptop which will be used by USB cable to power the cooler. So you don’t need to worry about USB port taken away by cooler. Next to this USB port there is one speed dial for changing the speed of fan, two switches for turning on & off the LED and fan of cooler. I didn’t feel like changing the speed of the fan to low unless I wanted to have very silent operation.

Build Quality

The build quality of the cooler is fantastic. It is built like a tank . Made out of hard rugged black plastic surrounding the aluminum mesh base with cooling fan below it, it is the idea eye-candy for the gamer. The aluminum mesh has got a beautiful glossy UV black coating on it. It has got four rubber feet to make sure that cooler stays stable even under a little pressure. The best thing about the cooler is that it also has got rubber on standoff feet.

Performance

The cooler pushes cold air from upwards to cool the center of the laptop and take away the hot air which is taken out by ventilation holes in the laptop. Temperatures dropped remarkably after using this cooler while playing games. Almost 9 to 8 degrees drop in all games. Enough to increase the life of your laptop while you are busy gaming.
There is small vent in the middle where you place your hand on the touch pad of the laptop to cool your sweaty hands. Which is a really welcome feature, (who wouldn’t like a little cool respite after a long session of typing and gaming?)

Although the fan, on high speed is noisy, you wouldn’t really notice the sound. Besides the slight vibration of cooler at low speed. But Fan does get noisy at highest speed. After a while you get used to it.

Final verdict

It is really comfort when placed on your lap. But it tends to get noisy sometimes. The cooling it offers is superior to all the coolers available in the market. This cooler is not cheap if you compare prices. Even though it’s premium price, it is worth every bit of it for the performance and sleek style it has to offer. It is a high end laptop cooler and doesn’t fail to deliver. You must let Cooler Master handle the cooling in every aspect.

And finally, I must say, My gaming experience is a helluva lot cooler once Notepad X3 takes away all the heat from it!
